Patek Philippe 5327G: A Watch for Generations
Patek Philippe has been making watches in Geneva since 1839. The Stern family has owned the company since 1932. It is the last of the great Genevan watchmakers still in private hands. This Perpetual Calendar, the 5327G-001, is a fine example of their craft. It is a watch designed to be passed down.
What it Does
The 5327G is a perpetual calendar. This means it knows the length of every month. It also accounts for leap years. You will not need to correct the date until the year 2100. The watch shows the day and 24-hour time. It displays the month and leap year. The date is shown around the moon phase. All of this is done by hand on three sub-dials.
Inside the Watch
This watch uses the Patek Philippe Calibre 240 Q. It is an ultra-thin self-winding movement. It has a small 22K gold rotor. This rotor is set into the bridges of the movement. The movement has 27 jewels and 275 parts. It beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour. The power reserve is between 38 and 48 hours. The balance is a Gyromax® and the balance spring is a Spiromax®. You can see the movement through the sapphire crystal case back.
The Case and Dial
The 5327G-001 is made of white gold. It has a round Calatrava-style case. The flanks are scalloped. The case measures 39 mm in diameter and is 9.71 mm thick. The dial is a sunburst blue. It features applied Breguet numerals made of white gold. The hands are white gold in a leaf style. It is water resistant to 30 meters.
The Strap
The strap is made of alligator leather. It has square scales and is hand-stitched. The color is shiny navy blue. It fastens with a white gold fold-over clasp.
